The Politically Incorrect Show - 21/08/2000

[Music - Die Fledermaus]

Good afternoon, KAYA ORAAAA & welcome to the Politically Incorrect Show on the free speech network, Radio Pacific, for Monday August 21, proudly sponsored by Neanderton Nicotine Ltd, the show that says bugger the politicians & bureaucrats & all the other bossyboot busybodies who try to run our lives with our money; that stands tall for free enterprise, achievement, profit & excellence against the state-worshippers in our midst; that stands above all for the most sacred thing in the universe, the liberty of the human individual.

[Music up, music down]

Weekends I like to try to afford myself some spiritual renewal, to extricate myself from the minutiae that can bog one down during the week & contemplate the bigger picture, aided by the most glorious music I can select. This weekend, the process was easy, for I received from amazon.com a little volume called The Best of Robert Ingersoll - selections from the writings & speeches of the nineteenth century freethinker reputed to be the greatest orator America had, or has, ever heard. Much of his work can be found on the internet, but I must confess I still prefer to do my reading from those old-fashioned things, books. I quoted Ingersoll on the subject of death in my tribute to my dad a couple of weeks back. This was a man who could have been President were he prepared to renounce his opposition to orthodox Christianity. Though he was asked to run for political office many times, he refused to do so on those terms. He didn't deem it advisable for any honest, independent thinker to essay into politics at that time. Once, when asked to identify the three biggest mistakes of the then-President Cleveland, he replied: "First, accepting the nomination. Second, taking the oath of office. Third, not resigning."

Ingersoll heaped scorn on the Bible, & maintained that there was a real & much better alternative already in existence. It's his thoughts on that that I'd like to quote today:

"For thousands of years men have been writing the real Bible, & it is being written from day to day, & it will never be finished while man has life. All the facts that we know, all the truly recorded events, all the discoveries & inventions, all the wonderful machines whose wheels & levers seem to think, all the poems, crystals from the brain, flowers from the heart, all the songs of love & joy, of smiles & tears, the great dramas of Imagination's world, the wondrous paintings, miracles of form & colour, of light & shade, the marvellous marbles that seem to live & breathe, the secrets told by rock & star, by dust & flower, by rain & snow, by rock & flame, by winding stream & desert sand, by mountain range & billowed sea.

"All the wisdom that lengthens & enobles life - all that avoids or cures disease, or conquers pain - all just & perfect laws & rules that guide & shape our lives, all thoughts that feed the flames of love, the music that transfigures, enraptures & enthralls, the victories of heart & brain, the miracles that hands have wrought, the deft & cunning hands of those who worked for wife & child, the histories of noble deeds, of brave & useful men, of faithful, loving wives, of quenchless mother love, of conflicts for the right, of sufferings for the truth, of all the best that all the men & women of the world have said & thought & done through all the years.

"These treasures of the heart & brain - these are the Sacred Scriptures of the human race."
