The Politically Incorrect Show - 18/09/2001

[Music - Die Fledermaus]

Good afternoon, Kaya Oraaaa & welcome to the Politically Incorrect Show for Tuesday September 18, proudly sponsored by Neanderton Nicotine Ltd, the show that says bugger the politicians & bureaucrats & all the other bossyboot busybodies who try to run our lives with our money; that stands tall for free enterprise, achievement, profit & excellence against the state-worshippers in our midst; that stands above all for the most sacred thing in the universe, the liberty of the human individual.

[Music up, music down!]

Man, we are told, is tainted by Adam's sin, the sin of pride. Pride, we are told, makes us obnoxious, malevolent, indifferent - nay, even hostile - to the well-being of others. Without a government gun held to our heads, Christianity's modern-day socialist incarnations tell us, we would never be benevolent towards one another. Our natural inclination, they proclaim, is to defraud, deceive, steal from, rape & kill each other to whatever extent we can get away with; only the heavy hand of the state can bring us into line & save us from a life that is "nasty, poor, solitary, brutish - & short."

This is the myth of "atomistic individualism" that causes even renowned conservatives like Thomas Sowell to shrink from embracing libertarianism. Surely it has been exploded once & for all by the response of New Yorkers to the terrorist devastation of their city? New Yorkers above all others are supposedly notorious for their in-your-face "Fuck you" attitude. Is that what we have seen over the last few harrowing days? Is "Fuck you" a fair & accurate depiction of the fire-fighters & rescue workers & the crowds who have spontaneously lined the streets to applaud & thank them?

Hardly. These people have worked without sleep under the most atrocious of conditions among the fathomless tonnes of rubble that were once the twin towers of the World Trade Centre - & WHAT a symbol of sinful pride THEY were! - to clear it away &, perhaps, find some survivors. They needed no government gun to galvanise them. They didn't agonise as to whether they would muck in in the face of a cataclysm beyond their worst nightmares; they didn't, if they were Objectivists, deliberate upon the ethics of emergencies, or whether mucking in would be consistent with their rational self-interest. They mucked in.

No, this homily is not a hymn to self-sacrifice. It is a hymn to the spirit of man, the spirit that loves life, & strives with unimaginable heroism to reclaim & reaffirm it when it is under threat from those who hate it & would destroy the people & things that make anything worthy of the name "life" possible. It is a salute to whoever it was who placed the American flag atop the rubble, "o'er the land of the free & the home of the brave" (now THERE was "Fuck you" writ large, to the scum who perpetrated these atrocities). It is a hymn to the PRIDE that the residents of Manhattan are proclaiming so defiantly.

Original sin? Give me a break. If this be sin, let there be an orgy of it.
