The Politically Incorrect Show - 11/08/1999

Music - Die Fledermaus

Good afternoon, Kaya Oraaa & welcome to the Politically Incorrect Show on the free speech network, Radio Pacific, for Wednesday August 11, proudly sponsored by Tuariki Tobacco Ltd, the show that says bugger the politicians & bureaucrats & all the other bossyboot busybodies who try to run our lives with our money; that stands tall for free enterprise, achievement, profit, & excellence, against the state-worshippers in our midst; that stands above all for the most sacred thing in the universe, the liberty of the human individual.

Music up, music down!

You may have heard me refer a few times to a thing called the "libertyloop." This is a bunch of liberty-lovers, from New Zealand, Australia, South Africa & the United Police States, who exchange libertarian news & views with each other via e-mail. Many of the New Zealand "loopies," as I so fondly call them, listen to this programme. One of them sent the following message to the loop last night, a propos a subject that has come up repeatedly on the Politically Incorrect Show since its inception, & especially over the last couple of days:

"Well said, Lindsay, regarding both the gutless Aussie [this was the ex-New Zealander who said he pitied me for my 'foolish bravery'] and your thoughts on the issue of the removal of the 'safety net.' When talking Libz policy with folk, this is one of the first 'sounds good, but...'s to come out. This country's unemployed represent, in most cases, a huge pool of wasted talent. The main reason so many think they are or are really useless IS this 'safety net.' I left school with School C, nothing more. I went into the first job available, which was at a petrol station. Since then the only times I've been out of work I've wanted to be out of work, and the only talents I have are strong body and a stronger work ethic. The latter seems to be one thing missing from a lot of people today. The Libz employment policy sets out to create a market where any person who wants to work, can. By allowing private employers to prosper and grow in a free market (free of Nanny's sticky mits, too), 100% employment is attainable. There will always be cot-cases in any society. We've got them now, with the safety net. In a Libertarian society there would be a lot fewer cot-cases. As for those who cannot survive without charity, the altruists will have the opportunity to practise what they preach."

I wish this posting could be writ large in the sky for all to see & contemplate, especially those who ring this programme & bemoan the fact that they were not born with the brains of Einstein or the entrepreneurial initiative of Bill Gates & claim that they should be allowed to steal other people's money to compensate for life's dreadful unfairness. The message of the true free market is: identify what talents you DO have, & use them to the full. No one owes you a living or a job. Ask not that the government steal in order to pay you to do nothing; ask rather that the government stop stealing so that others can employ you to do something - & then show willing. Who knows, you might even end up employing other people yourself. I'll wager that the young man who posted this message on the libertyloop ends up doing so!

And rather than asking first, "What about those who can't help themselves?" let us ask instead, "What about those who CAN?" THEY create the wealth on which all of us, the helpless included, depend. It behoves us to get out of their way & leave them free to function.

To the snivelling cannibals who feign helplessness so they can live off stolen money I say, "Today is the first day of the rest of your life. You can go on wallowing at other people's expense in your miserable inertia, or you can unglue your derriere from the TV couch & do something for yourself. Stop supporting politicians who promise you more money stolen from the productive. Scrape the cobwebs from your brain, study the free market - the real thing, not the crony-phoney tax-and-regulate economy that is touted as a free market now - & promote the hell out of it. It's your last, best, & only hope of saving yourself & all of us from the statist, collectivist abyss into which we shall otherwise be plunged."
