The Politically Incorrect Show - 23/12/1999

[Music - Die Fledermaus]

Good afternoon, Kaya Oraaa & welcome to the Politically Incorrect Show on the free speech network, Radio Pacific, for Thursday December 23, proudly sponsored by Neanderton Nicotine Ltd., the show that says bugger the politicians & bureaucrats & all the other bossyboot busybodies who try to run our lives with our money; that stands tall for free enterprise, achievement, profit, & excellence, against the state-worshippers in our midst; that stands above all for the most sacred thing in the universe, the liberty of the human individual.

[Music up, music down!]

Garth George of the Daily Marxist is an inveterate monger of myths. His specialties this year have been the myths that "Rogernomics" & "Roundtable" are synonymous with "free market," that socialism is good for us, & that alcohol is bad for us. (A bit of a wowser also is our Mr George.) Yesterday he was mongering his favourite myth, Christianity. It boggles my mind to have to remind myself that in this day & age there are still grown men who believe quite literally in angels, virgin births, resurrections from the dead & similar nonsense. Not only that, they claim that the woes of the world are attributable to not enough of us believing it. Here's Mr George:

"Jesus drew a verbal blueprint for a perfect world to be presided over by a perfect God, then went to the cross, the tomb & resurrection from the dead so that all men & women might have victory over sin & death & live happily ever after."

Strange that this "perfect" God screwed up so badly on his first attempt that he had to do all that to repair the damage. And that even then, he didn't succeed, as Mr George reminds us:

"Misery continues to stalk the earth: man's inhumanity to man continues unabated. Tens of thousands die in religious [quite right Mr George], political & ethnic wars; thousands more in natural disasters [acts of God, Mr George] or from a lack of the necessities of life; & greed & a continued unravelling of the moral fabric of society bring another sort of anguish to millions throughout the western world. Why? Because then & now, except for a handful, men & women for whom Jesus came into the world choose to reject him, to see the record of his life - the greatest story ever told - as a fairytale."

In which case one would have to say at the very least that this "perfect" God is an abysmal communicator. But really, this isn't the problem at all. The fact is, Christianity IS a fairytale. The woes of the world are not due to inadequate numbers of people believing in it, or any of its rivals, but rather, to too many doing so. Those who believe absurdities, said Voltaire, commit atrocities. When adult human beings with the capacity to reason renounce that capacity in favour of childish wishful thinking, the result will be global tantrums with cataclysmic consequences. Man's inhumanity to man will indeed "continue unabated" because man has abandoned his distinctively human attribute, the one that requires him to respect his fellow-man: his capacity to think.

If peace & good will be our aim, we shall not achieve them by repairing to infantile, intellectually incoherent mumbo-jumbo about a perfect god who sent his son to save us from his own blunders (for which we're supposed to feel guilty); we must repair instead to the mind, the true glory of man, & bring our magnificent but still-stunted species into adulthood. As tantalising precursors, the mind gave us Greece & the Enlightenment & the Industrial Revolution - but the anti-mind always regrouped & prevailed, arresting our development & keeping us in the Dark Ages.

The much-vaunted New Millennium might be a good time for the human race finally to grow up - with all that might imply for page two of the Herald!
